NAACP Centennial Convention Largest in History Over 5000 Attendees Gather to Celebrate NAACP’S 100TH Year

On July 11-16th the NAACP celebrated its 100th Year in New York, New York with over 5000 attendees, the most in recent history.

Speakers included: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Charles E. Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Congressman Charles Rangel, Congressman Gregory Meeks, New York Governor David Paterson, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New Jersey Governor John Corzine, General Colin Powell, Reverend Al Sharpton, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Liberia President, Senegal President, For the first time in history all former President and CEO’s including Kwesi Mfume and Benjamin Hooks addressed the Convention, President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous unveiled a sweeping new law enforcement initiative with Jeffrey Wright, NAACP Chairman Julian Bond received the Spingarn Award and
President Obama addressed the Spingarn Dinner, the largest gathering of African-American’s in the history of his Presidency.
