It's Election Day, and the NAACP's Command Center - manned by NAACP staff, in partnership with state and local organizations, legal advisors, community and faith leaders, and volunteers - continues to respond to and track incoming reports of voter suppression and protection violations received on the 1-866-OUR-VOTE hotline.
As of 3:00 PM EST, the NAACP Command Center in Baltimore, one of more than 100 call centers across the country, has logged over 200 reports. Many people are calling in with questions about polling locations and registration requirements, but over half of the calls have been to report problems, including faulty equipment and voter intimidation concerns.
According to Our Vote Live (www.ourvotelive.org), 27,322 reports have been logged nationally as of 2:30 EST.
Starting at 8:00 a.m., NAACP Command Center volunteers also began making calls to remind voters to head to the polls. By midday, nearly 2,000 calls had been made to Baltimore City residents alone.
