Thousands to discuss social and political climate for Blacks in America
WASHINGTON (September 17, 2018) – With less than 50 days to the critical midterm elections, the NAACP will be holding a national call to action Tele-Townhall conference call on Wednesday, September 19 where concerned Americans can hear from NAACP leaders on how they can help push back against the current attack on civil rights and the right to vote.
“Since Donald Trump ascended to the presidency on a platform of division, people of color across America have been dealing with levels of blatant hate and racism not seen in decades,” said NAACP President Derrick Johnson. “His blatant dog-whistle politics has served as inspiration for others to express their own racism and bias, and #LivingWhileBlack has not been this dangerous since the Jim Crow era. This all needs to end—and on November 6, we all have a chance to make it stop and put our country back on the path toward equality. The importance of our vote and participation cannot be overstated. We can’t exercise our right to vote without people in power trying to put up barriers to our access to the ballot box. This is a time for real people to have real conversations on the status of this country, and mobilize to reclaim our communities. Our lives depend on it.”
Media interested in RSVPing for the event should go here. President Johnson will be available for interviews prior to and after the call. Please contact NAACP@sunshinesachs.com and Malik Russell: firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange and request interviews.
