NAACP president and CEO, Derrick Johnson, released the following statement:
“Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s statement on the Russia investigation confirms that the integrity and security of our democracy continues to be at risk. Mueller reminded us that ‘[t]here were multiple, systematic efforts to interfere in our election. And that allegation deserves the attention of every American.’ It is time for Congress and this Administration to take every action possible to protect our democracy from foreign interference in our elections.
“Mr. Mueller clearly stated that he could not exonerate Donald Trump: “If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.” He declined to make a determination because of longstanding Justice Department policy prohibiting prosecution of a sitting president. Trump has subverted the rule of law. It is now up to Congress to do its job and take all appropriate action to hold this president accountable.”
