Thomas L. Kalahar

Tom is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Camelot Communications, LTD.  He has had a distinguished career serving in various roles for some of America’s most respected companies.

Tom began his career with Proctor & Gamble and held a variety of sales and marketing management positions in the consumer packaged goods business before assuming responsibilities for the U.S. and Canadian Foodservice Sales Division.

Tom then joined the Dr. Pepper/7-Up Company as Executive Vice-President – U.S. prior to founding Camelot Communications.

Camelot is a strategic marketing and media services company specializing in (1) developing comprehensive go to market business plans; (2) digital marketing plans, including planning and buying search, display and social media on desktop/mobile/tablet platforms; (3) sports marketing plans, including sponsorships with television networks and teams in the NFL, MLB, NHL and NCAA football and basketball in addition to PGA and soccer; (4) multi-cultural plans; (5) media services, including planning and buying all forms of media locally and nationally (TV/Radio/Print/Digital).

Camelot  bills approximately $400 million annually on behalf of its clients, which over the years has included relationships with Southwest Airlines, Air Tran Airlines, Wendy’s, TGI Friday’s, 7-Eleven, Intuit/Turbo Tax, Guitar Center, Neiman Marcus, AT&T, Payless, AMC Theatres and many other Fortune 1000 companies.
Within the industry, Tom has been recognized and honored by:

  • The Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) with its most prestigious lifetime achievement award – “The Silver Award of Excellence”;
  • The American Advertising Federation (AAF), where he has been inducted into the AAF Hall of Fame for outstanding contributions to the advertising industry and community service in the Southwest.

Among major companies he has been recognized by 7-Eleven with its Opus Praeclarum, which is its most prestigious corporate award generally awarded to only company employees and by Southwest Airlines with its prestigious President’s Award.

Outside the business world, Tom has been active in supporting civic and charitable organizations on a national, as well as a local basis, including The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation as a past National Board Member and as Vice President on the Executive Committee, the American Diabetes Association, the Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America, among others.

Tom is currently a National Board Member of the Tom Joyner Foundation, an organization focused on supporting historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) and the continuing education of students attending those institutions.

Tom is a lifetime member of the NAACP and currently serves as a member of the NAACP Foundation Board of Trustees and as Treasurer of the NAACP/SCF Fund.  He is a member of the National Finance Committee and serves as Vice-Chairman of the NAACP Image Awards.  The live two-hour Image Awards Show is broadcast on a national basis on the NBC Television Network in prime time.  The show recognizes and honors outstanding achievements and performances by people of color in the arts (motion pictures, television, recording and literature), as well as individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors.

Tom grew up and was educated in the Midwest, attending high school in Cleveland, Chicago and Pittsburgh and college at Miami University (Ohio).  Tom and his wife, Brenda, reside in Dallas, Texas and have six children and nice grandchildren, all of whom live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
