Ciera-Jevae "Cici" Gordon is an Oakland-born, Richmond-raised spoken word artist, and past Poet Laureate of Richmond, Ca. Organizing and the arts became a crucial part of her identity early on as she worked with her Richmond leaders, students, teachers, and families to address violence and harm inflicted on the Black community. Ciera-Jevae has served as the co-founder of Black Greek Poets, a collective of poets within the Divine Nine who seek to use their platform as a means to bridge poetry and the power of community engagement through fostering a safe space where artistic pursuit can be nourished and positively developed, and as an organizer for the Root Slam, an open mic and poetry slam based in Oakland, CA.

She is elated to be serving as the Administrative Assistant for the Youth & College Division of the NAACP. Her work focuses on storytelling in a variety of mediums from social media and newsletters to event planning and overall organization. In the last two years prior to joining the NAACP, she has led a series of trainings on team management, work/ life balance, and healing-centered engagement, as well as supervision in Social Services for the San Francisco Family Support Network. Her previous work also includes being a teaching artist in the Santa Cruz County Jail as well as the John A. Davis Juvenile Hall in Contra Costa County.

She is all about JOY and Black liberation and In 2018 she founded Melanin & Mimosas which serves to co-create a space for the Black community to hold discussions on a variety of topics from education, finances, love, self-care, spirituality, and more. She has appeared on numerous podcasts such as The Black Woman's Book Collective and The Conversation Room speaking to the power and brilliance of Black people, especially Black women. She is the author of her latest collection of poetry on Black girlhood entitled Unto Ivy's Rib. She received her B.A. in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz and her MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts. Ciera-Jevae is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., as well as a charter member of the Gamma Phi Chapter.
