Jamal Ademola
Animator
Jamal Ademola is a film director, visual artist, animator, and actor. Jamal poetically works across a wide range of disciplines – Live-action film, animation, video, drawing, painting, photography, and performance. Across media, he builds rich, prismatic worlds that examine displaced identities, love and relationships, cultural consciousness, and society. In his work, he seeks to investigate the mythical, the cosmic, the infinite, the indigenous, and the fantastical, through dreamworlds which explore the sacred power of the elevated feminine to construct a higher, more evolved society and way of being. As an actor, he appeared in "Imagine a Moon Colony" written and directed by Phillip Youmans as part of the HULU TV series "Your Attention Please". His films have screened internationally, from Lagos, Nigeria to New York. In 2021, He became an exhibiting artist in a three-person exhibition called "African Ancient Futures" at a whitespace creative gallery in Lagos, Nigeria curated by Ethel-Ruth Tawe. Commercially, he has helped create animated and mixed-media advertising spots and Installations for highly visible clients such as Google, Reebok, Apple, Skechers, and Northwell Health. "Fearless Leader", an animated commercial he co-directed with MJZ director Fredrik Bond which features a young black woman as a superhero defeating covid 19, won a Muse Award for creativity in 2020.
His work has been featured in I-D magazine, Vogue Italia, Creative Boom, Okay Africa, and Vice. He is currently based in Los Angeles and is writing and developing projects for film & television in hopes to facilitate healing.
