HEALTH POLICY
African Americans live with a greater burden of disease than whites, and as we’re seeing more and more of our chronic conditions place us at increased risk for complications from COVID-19. The inequities within the U.S. healthcare system impact people of color disproportionately and lead to unequal access to services and poorer health outcomes, especially for African Americans.
The NAACP is calling for:
- Expansion of Medicaid as a short-term measure to cover health care for those who are impacted by this pandemic and those who don’t have insurance and to push for Congress to build on the coverage gains made under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and ensure access to quality, affordable health care coverage for all starting in 2021.
- Expanded eligibility for affordable health care options and invest in long-term health care and health care education in the areas where people live.
How You Can Help:
- Donate towards our fight for affordable healthcare coverage for the African Americans who are disproportionately impacted by this pandemic.
- Sign-up to support our Healthcare program in its commitment to eliminating the racial and ethnic inequities that exist within our health care system that undermine communities of color, their life opportunities, and their ability to contribute fully to the common good.
