Tell Congress to Reject Harmful Funding Cuts
The NAACP calls for Congress to reject harmful government funding plans in favor of policies that safeguard the quality of Americans' lives.
This Is an American Issue
The backbone of American society isn't wealth — it's us: the people.
Regardless of one's race or ethnicity, programs like Social Security,
Medicare/Medicaid, SNAP, and Veterans benefits provide a lifeline to millions of Americans, ensuring that those who have sacrificed and contributed so much to our nation receive the support they deserve. As lawmakers are
considering drastic cuts to vital programs, and we must act swiftly to stop it.
Government funding decisions should not hurt the elderly, veterans, or those
benefitting from Social Security. Cutting these essential lifelines to fund yet
another billionaire tax break is unacceptable and is un-American.
Why This Matters
- America is only as healthy as its people. The Congressional Budget Office estimates 11.8 million people would lose access to healthcare. A strong nation takes care of its people, and no American should have to choose between healthcare and putting food on the table.
- Helping children and families is an American value. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) is the nation's most important anti-hunger program. Under this budget, $300 billion — or one third of the SNAP budget — would be slashed.
- The government should work for the people. Slashing support for those who sustain our nation while protecting corporate interests and the ultra-wealthy would hurt all Americans.
Congress must vote NO on a budget bill that jeopardizes these programs and others like it. Our nation's strength lies in how we protect those who protect us, support those who have supported our communities, and sustain the foundation that helps millions live with dignity.

The Devastating Effect of Cutting Medicaid
People of all races and ethnicities use Medicaid as their sole source of health coverage and are thus at risk if Medicaid is targeted for major cuts. People who are uninsured rather than covered by Medicaid experience great harm, such as foregoing essential care, skyrocketing health costs, and less access to primary preventive services as children and adults.

Tell Your Story
The current funding bill jeopardizes several social safety net programs to give tax cuts to the ultrawealthy. We need your story to gain insight into how funding cuts to these programs affect you and your family.
