Mr. Braggs was born and raised in Wilmington, NC and became active in politics and community service at an early age.  He served three consecutive terms on the Wilmington City Council as a Youth Member.  In the community, he organized his local youth council and became its president.  Shortly, thereafter, he helped to organize the District Youth Council and became its president.  At the age of 16, he was elected Southeast U.S. Regional Youth Council Treasurer.  In high school he was editor of the newspaper, member of the yearbook staff, drama club, and inducted into the National Honor Society.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and completed over 26 years of honorable service retiring in January 2004.  At sea, he served onboard nuclear submarines sailing throughout the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic Oceans.  He served as military secretary on the personal staff of the Secretary of the Navy and as Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff, U.S. Pacific Submarine Force.  He completed 10 arduous deployments, including an extended combat deployment to the Arabian Gulf.  He is expressly proud that his final deployment included surfacing at the North Pole.   Following retirement, he worked in the private sector as the Operations Director for Angel Network Charities, Inc.  In May, 2007, he returned to government service at the Treasury Department and transferred to the Defense Department in 2009.

A devout social justice advocate, he is committed to defending civil and human rights.  He is a life member and current president of the Honolulu-Hawaii NAACP overseeing operations in Japan, Korea, Guam, and Hawaii.  Mr. Braggs is the former host of the "NAACP Today" television show.  He serves on the Board of Directors, Japanese American Citizens League Honolulu Chapter and the California-Hawaii NAACP State Conference Executive Committee, and the NAACP Board of Directors.  Mr. Braggs holds membership in several professional and fraternal organizations including Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and very honored to serve in various senior leadership positions in Prince Hall Masonry and Shrinedom.

Mr. Braggs holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Masters of Business Administration.  Fully engaged in community building, he mentors youth and aspiring entrepreneurs.  He is the founder and president of Blackberry Seed, LLC and the Chairman of the Board for the Blackberry Seed Legacy Foundation.  He is a Life Skills Coach and facilitator for the Women's Empowerment Program at Oahu Women's Correctional Center.  Fully engaged in community building, he mentors youth and aspiring entrepreneurs, and is a Life Skills Coach.  He is a proud father, grandfather, and loves the great outdoors, singing, coin collecting, and writing.
