NAACP Applauds Judiciary Committee's Vote to Advance Jackson's Nomination
WASHINGTON, DC - The NAACP issued the following statements today in response to the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote to advance Ketanji Brown Jackson's nomination:
"A historic step was taken today. As the Supreme Court is slated to consider cases that will impact everything from climate change to voting and reproductive rights, representation is of utmost importance. Ketanji Brown Jackson is highly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and her voice is more important now than ever. We are looking forward to celebrating alongside the rest of the country when she is officially confirmed to the bench in the days ahead," said Janette McCarthy Wallace, NAACP's General Counsel.
"Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a brilliant, accomplished jurist who is extraordinarily qualified to serve on the Supreme Court," added NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson. "The NAACP applauds the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote today which advances the nomination of Judge Jackson to the Court. Judge Jackson has cleared an important hurdle on the path to her historic confirmation. It's a stain on the Committee that this vote was not unanimous, but instead was a tied vote along party lines. Our members are calling upon each and every senator to vote for Judge Jackson when the entire Senate votes later this week. History will be watching."
