NAACP Commends Biden Harris-Administration on PAVE Report 

The NAACP commends the Biden Harris-Administration on its completion of the PAVE report. The role of homeownership in creating generational wealth is well-documented by data reflecting the racial wealth gap between Black and White families. 

 

We appreciate the leadership of HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge, who has demonstrated a keen understanding of wealth creation through home equity growth.

 

For years, Black homeowners have provided anecdotes pointing to appraisal bias. These anecdotes are supported by objective data that point to race and demography of neighborhoods as crucial predictors in appraisers' suppression of property values. Bias in any form is unacceptable.

 

Therefore, the NAACP encourages a holistic evaluation of federal law and policy intersection with state licensing and certification requirements to ensure that Black homeowners and communities receive a fair assessment of property and the benefits of homeownership and home equity growth.
