NAACP Mourns the Passing of André Leon Talley, Fashion Tastemaker

The NAACP joins our friends in the fashion industry as we mourn the passing of André Leon Talley, a fashion tastemaker, journalist, creative director, and former American editor-at-large of Vogue magazine. 

We remember Talley for his modest beginnings to a life-spanning career in the fashion industry. As one of the first mainstream Black tastemakers, he strived to open the door for Black models on the runway in high style. His contributions transcended his work and touched facets of TV, podcasts and books. In 2021, he was honored with the Chevalier de l'Ordre Des Arts et des Lettres for his significant contributions. 

He left a mark where few have. For that, alone, he will be missed.
