NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson Demands Reform on Anniversary of Buffalo NY Shooting
This Mother's Day, marks the anniversary of the tragic act of domestic terrorism at Tops Friendly Markets in Buffalo, New York. Countless families across the country continue to grieve loved ones they lost at the hands of a hateful society that continues to capitalize on the inaction of so-called leaders. Let me be clear - blood is on the hands of every member of Congress who refuse to deliver common sense gun reform.
The NAACP has met with leaders at every level of government who represent communities across the country. We've provided them with the blueprint and mobilized a historic number of Black Americans - ensuring their ballots were cast and their voice was heard.
However, somehow our cries continue to fall on deaf ears. How many more lives will be lost? Communities and families ruined? Children left without parents? How many more mass shootings will it take for the 535 members of Congress to uphold their sworn duty to the American people?
Enough is enough. Do your job. We are done dying.
