NAACP President and CEO, Derrick Johnson, Releases Statement Blasting the White House Insufficient Changes To Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

Black Man Teaching a Classroom of Students

The Administration's proposed plan to address the student loan debt crisis is gravely insufficient. Teachers, federal employees, and those who serve the greater good are struggling under the sheer financial weight of their student debt. It is a devastating crisis and the White House must treat it as such. We are committed to advocating and working with the White House for at least $50,000 to be forgiven for borrowers. Canceling student loan debt is an issue of economic stimulus that we can no longer afford to ignore.
