NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson on Introduction of H.R. 4

Press Contact: Jonah Bryson, jbryson@naacpnet.org
"Democracy is under attack. Communities of color across the country are being silenced. Our vote, our most precious and sacred right, is being stripped away one state at a time. Congress has got to pass federal voting rights legislation, and must do so urgently.
"Let us be clear, we will continue to cause good trouble, necessary trouble, until the White House and Congress get this done. The White House must prioritize voting rights legislation with the same level of urgency and commitment as the bipartisan infrastructure bill. The clock on American democracy is ticking.
"That is why this weekend we will be in Columbus, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Washington DC, canvassing door-to-door to mobilize voters early, raise awareness on voter suppression tactics, and urge elected officials to pass federal voting rights legislation. These efforts will only continue and intensify, coast-to-coast, as we approach the midterm elections. Our democracy depends on it."
