NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson Releases Statement on Sherrilyn Ifill’s Departure from NAACP Legal Defense Fund

A life-long servant to our community, Sherrilyn Ifill embodies what it means to be a trailblazer, leading the charge for Civil Rights and the preservation of democracy for all. Under Sherrilyn's leadership, the Legal Defense Fund has flourished, innovating to expand its capabilities and continuously tackling issues that are critical to our shared mission and dedication to improving the quality of life for Black people in this country. A dear friend and colleague, Sherrilyn will be deeply missed at the helm of the NAACP LDF but I am confident that our comrade of nearly a decade, Janai Nelson, is the best candidate to carry the torch and continue fighting for our rights in the courts and beyond.
