NAACP President Derrick Johnson on President Biden's Significant Step to Pardon All Federal Offenses of Simple Marijuana Possession
"We applaud President Biden for pardoning those who have been convicted for the simple possession of marijuana. Correcting unequal treatment — including marijuana reform — has been a priority issue for the NAACP for decades. Drug arrests and enforcement have caused racial disparities throughout the criminal justice system, and many drug laws were first created to target racial and ethnic minorities. Today marks another significant step in addressing the systemic racism within the criminal justice system. Our collective vote in 2020 is resulting in concrete progress. Vote, vote, vote. We can continue to make a difference."
