WASHINGTON — Following the release of portions of the special grand jury report on former President Donald Trump's attempt to subvert the 2020 election results in Georgia, NAACP President & CEO, Derrick Johnson released this statement:

"After years of lies and misinformation, our nation is closer to uncovering the truth behind a collective of treasonous attempts to subvert our election and undermine our democracy in favor of advancing Donald Trump to the White House. From the very beginning of his campaign, Trump and his co-conspirators waged war against Black voters, spreading baseless claims and promoting racist narratives in an attempt to disenfranchise and silence them.

The NAACP commends the Fulton County District Attorney's office and the courageous jurors who have undertaken the patriotic task of holding these traitors accountable for their actions. This investigation has made one thing very clear - no one is above the law, not even a former president. We stand in solidarity with our fellow champions of democracy and urge them to continue to pursue justice for the people of Georgia, and for our nation's democracy. We will not sit by while undemocratic forces attempt to tear apart the very foundation of our nation. The NAACP will continue to do everything in our power to protect our democracy, preserve the integrity of our elections, and ensure that Black voices are heard in every election."
