NAACP Statement on Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act

Black people are tired of grieving our brothers and sisters while looking over our shoulders, waiting for the next hateful attack to occur. In order for democracy to prevail, we must eradicate white supremacy — the two cannot coexist. We applaud Senator Schumer for recognizing the urgency of this issue and taking a critical first step to address its root causes, but the fight does not stop here. Every member of the Senate must vote to bring this critical legislation to the floor for a full vote and ensure its passage while working to implement additional protections for our citizenry. We are done waiting and wishing – lives are on the line. Swift action by the Senate is imperative.
