NAACP Statement on San Diego Branch

The NAACP National Office appointed an administrator to oversee the operations of the San Diego Branch at the request of the California State Conference. The designated duties of the administrator include supporting the Branch programmatic initiatives, serving as signatory on all accounts and making certain that the financial affairs of the Branch are handled in accordance with established procedures.

Despite repeated requests, then Branch President, Francine Maxwell, refused to adhere to the communicated process or to cooperate with the appointed Administrator, Alphonso Braggs

Subsequently, Ms. Maxwell was removed as the president of the Branch in accordance with the stated bylaws.

Administrator Braggs is working in concert with the Executive Committee to ensure the Branch is positioned and equipped to address the racial justice issues of concern to the local community.

As this is an internal matter the Association will have no further comment.
