Eric Spragins is a native of Southfield, Michigan, and a graduate of Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology. He is currently pursuing a degree in Political Science and International
Relations at Morehouse College, where he continues to develop his commitment to leadership, service, and civic engagement.

Eric is a student leader, civil rights advocate, and organizer who believes that when you see something that needs to change, you do not remain silent you speak up and take action. Inspired by the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis and his call to make "good trouble," Eric has dedicated himself to advancing youth leadership and community advocacy.

Eric previously served as the three-term President of the NAACP Detroit Youth Council, one of the largest and most active youth councils in the nation. Under his leadership, the council strengthened youth engagement, expanded advocacy efforts, and empowered young people to become leaders within their communities. He also served as Youth and College Treasurer for the NAACP Michigan State Conference, supporting statewide initiatives and helping coordinate youth leadership efforts across Michigan.

Through his work with the NAACP, Eric has participated in the organization's 114th and 115th National Conventions, helping advance resolutions that promoted the creation of Mental Health Crisis Response Units within law enforcement and expanded unconscious bias training and outreach aimed at recruiting Black officers.

Eric is also a strong advocate for addressing gun violence and raising awareness about its impact on young people, families, and communities. He believes advocacy is not simply about policy, but about people ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to live in safe, supportive, and thriving communities.

At Morehouse College, Eric serves within the Student Government Association, representing his peers and working collaboratively to enhance student life and strengthen the campus community. He approaches leadership with a focus on problem-solving, collaboration, and practical action.

Grounded in faith and guided by Romans 8:31 — "If God is for us, who can be against us?" — Eric draws strength from his belief that courage, perseverance, and service can create lasting change.

Looking ahead, Eric plans to continue his education and pursue a career in public service, with aspirations of running for public office. Rooted in his Michigan upbringing, shaped by the brotherhood and tradition of Morehouse, and driven by a passion for justice and opportunity, Eric Spragins is committed to building a future where leadership, service, and courage inspire the next generation to create meaningful change.
