No Healthcare, No Vote

THE HOUSE Must Protect Our Healthcare

The longest government shutdown in U.S. history is hurting millions of Americans. It's time to hold our leaders accountable.

As of November 1, Affordable Care Act (ACA) premiums are expected to skyrocket during the open enrollment period. SNAP and WIC benefits will run out of money. Early childhood education programs will pause. The NAACP calls on lawmakers to reach an agreement in the Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government, ensuring the protection of affordable healthcare access.

No Healthcare, No Vote

Lawmakers disagree on whether to extend the enhanced ACA premium tax credits, which help millions of Americans afford health insurance. Without the tax credits, the nearly 24 million people who rely on insurance purchased through the ACA would be impacted.

The threat to affordable health coverage is immediate and severe. We cannot let government funding plans hurt hard-working Americans. The United States is only as healthy as its people. The House must vote to protect healthcare access and work to reopen the government as quickly as possible.

Why This Matters:
  • Healthy people, healthy country. When millions of Americans can't afford health insurance, they'll have less support when sick, hurting us all.
  • Affordable healthcare is our right. The Affordable Care Act is, in part, paid for by tax dollars from American Citizens. It's our money and should go towards benefiting our lives. This isn't a Black issue or a white issue. This is an American issue, and real American lives are at stake.
  • No one should go hungry. The 42 million Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will not have access to benefits starting Nov. 1 because of the shutdown.
  • Workers should be paid. More than a million federal workers, including air traffic control and TSA agents, have missed their paychecks but have continued to work.

The House must vote to reopen the federal government while supporting affordable healthcare access and other vital services. The strength of our country lies in our unity. We cannot allow ourselves to be divided by health.

Email The House, Share Your Story

We need you to step up and make your voice heard. Now that the government has shut down, key services have been interrupted, and programs like SNAP and WIC will run out of money. Approximately 750,000 federal workers are currently without an income, and this could result in a significant economic loss of billions of dollars.

The time to act is now. Together, we can call on the House to vote to reopen the federal government and protect affordable care.  Share your story today!
