WASHINGTON - Former U.S. Congresswoman, Mia Love of Utah, the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, died Sunday. The NAACP released the following statement, honoring her life.

"Congresswoman Mia Love was well respected by constituents and colleagues alike, as a leader and trailblazer in politics.

"As the daughter of Haitian immigrants, she demonstrated the best of what immigrant families contribute to the United States: work ethic, resolve, and dedication to family and community.

"In 2014, Congresswoman Love made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Utah's Fourth Congressional District from 2015-2019. Her service exemplified hard work to address difficult issues, with civility and respect for everyone."
