WASHINGTON – Following the recent grand jury indictment of former President Trump on several charges including felony racketeering and conspiracy, as part of a sweeping investigation into his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, NAACP President & CEO, Derrick Johnson issued this statement:

"The only debate left surrounding former President Donald Trump is whether the tally of indictments against him will surpass the number of successful, implemented policies on his resume. The fourth indictment against the former President serves as another stark reminder that in a democratic society, absolutely no one is above the law. Let's be clear - every individual, even those who've held the nation's highest office, must be held accountable. The NAACP commends Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for her unwavering commitment to the pursuit of  justice in the face of hate and harassment. This is what leadership looks like."

In February 2021, the NAACP filed the first civil legal action (Thompson v. Trump) in response to the January 6th attack, representing 10 members of congress in the case.
