The NAACP has long tackled the root causes and impacts of climate-related disasters, advocating for policy change and equity. Through local branches and community partnerships, we've led coordinated responses that amplify excluded voices and drive systemic change. Now, with the launch of initiatives like Climate in Color: Reframing Our Future, we're spotlighting innovative solutions from frontline communities.
During this year's Climate Week NYC, the NAACP is participating in key events to advance the fight for environmental justice and true equity.
Climate Film Fest
Join NAACP's Abre' Conner, Director of the Center for Environmental and Climate Justice, for the Climate Film Fest on Saturday, September 20. As a juror for the film festival, Conner will represent leaders in climate and film industries and will vote on five prizes, including Feature Documentary, Short Documentary, Short Narrative, Student Choice, and the Horizon Award for filmmakers under 30.

Films from the Frontlines
On Monday, September 22, Films from the Frontlines: Stories That Lead to Climate Action will discuss ways to use storytelling for social justice change, share key lessons regarding how environmental and climate justice can better center Black and frontline storytellers, and spark dialogue on building momentum nationwide, including where we go 20 years post-Katrina.
We will also bring together filmmakers, advocates, and storytellers who are reshaping the narrative on climate through art, film, and community voices throughout the presentations.

Powering AI Sustainability
AI tools can seem like magic, but behind them are massive data centers consuming huge amounts of energy and water. Tech companies are racing to build these facilities, often outpacing clear demand. On Wednesday, September 24, Powering AI Sustainability: Aligning the Data Boom with a Clean Energy Future will explore how states, utilities, and regulators can manage AI's growing energy footprint, strengthen the grid, and ensure renewable power keeps pace with rapid expansion.
