Unit Compliance

• For a unit to be considered Nationally Compliant and in good standing, they must be compliant in the following areas:  

• Membership 

• Financial 

For more information, refer to the NAACP Bylaws for Units, Page 16; Paragraph 3a 

• State/State Area Conference Compliance  

  • State/State-Area Conferences must have no less than six (6) branches and six (6) Youth Units in good standing.  

• Membership Compliance for Branches 

  • All branches must maintain no fewer than 50 adult members.  

  • Prospective branches must have a minimum of 100 adult members.  

• Membership Compliance for Youth 

  • Youth (Junior YC, High School Chapters, College Chapters and Youth Councils) must contain at least 25 members under age 25 and/or be currently enrolled as a student in a college or university.

• Annual Financial Report (AFR) 

  • The key to becoming financially compliant is the successful completion and approval of the Annual Financial Report. This is a financial report produced by units yearly to assist our Finance Department with filing our collective 990 tax return, with the IRS. Units that do not submit an AFR may be at risk at losing their 501 (c) (4) status.  

  • The AFR is due by March 1st. AFR's submitted after March 1st will be assessed a late fee.

  • AFR's must be submitted for all years in order for the unit to maintain its charter. 

  • All assessments must be paid for the unit to be considered financially compliant.

Below are the minimum assessments that each unit is required to pay annually based on their membership. 

• All Youth Units - $75 

• Units with less than 100 members - $300 

• Units with 101 – 500 members - $500 

• Units with 501 – 1000 members - $750 

• Units with 1001 – 2000 members - $1000 

• Units with 2001 – 3000 members - $1500 

• Units with 3001 – 3500 members - $2000 

• Units with 3501 – 4000 members - $3000 

• Units with more than 4000 members - $5000
